RULES AND GENERAL NOTES

As the main activity of the ILCS centres round its magazine “The Philatelic Circulator”, it follows that most of these notes are concerned with its receipt and despatch.

1) The Circulator must be passed to the next member on the postal list within three days. (Otherwise see 7 below)

2) Provision is made in each issue for recording dates of receipt and despatch with member’s signature.

3) The Society’s official label must be securely fixed to the outside of the packet. This gives the Secretary’s name and address and has been useful in the past for returning ‘strayed’ magazines.

4) A Certificate of Posting must be obtained. Blank forms can be obtained from any post office for completion at home – useful for members who rely on others to do their posting for them. Date and magazine number from (2) above can be entered for additional reference. These forms should be kept for, say, three months after which they may be destroyed.

5) Common sense dictates that the magazine must be securely packed!! Sellotape the label in position to prevent it being torn off would help. If using a previously used envelope (most of us do) check that all the outer edges of the packet are well secured to keep the magazine safe in transit and remember to obliterate all previous markings. Brown parcel tape is also recommended, if possible.

6) Members are requester to notify the Magazine Secretary immediately of any change of address. Additionally, the Magazine Secretary likes to be informed of holidays so that the magazine can be diverted and not be unopened on your doormat for the duration of your holiday. A diverted magazine can be sent to the absent member to read at a later date.

7) The Magazine Secretary would also like to know of any problems that any member may have which affects the travel of the “Circulator” – perhaps we can help in some way.

8) Subscriptions (£1) are due on the 1st of January each year. An easy way to remember is to put a note with your Christmas card list. It is also arranged that if you run out of labels you probably owe a subscription!

9) Any articles for the magazine should be sent to the Editor but the Secretary is happy to type out articles for greater legibility, if required. Paper size 6” x 8” with 1” margin for binding is needed.

10) Names and addresses given on the postal list of “The Philatelic Circulator” are privy to the ILCS and no member shall use or cause to be used any name or address for any purpose other than the legitimate objects of the Society i.e. to foster a spirit of good fellowship among members and to keep members in touch with one and another.
